The company owns Freedom Mobile (formerly Wind Mobile), a mobile phone provider that has over 1.7 million subscribers.

History of Shaw

Shaw Communications was founded in Edmonton in 1966 by JR Shaw. It was called Capital Cable Televsion Company before changing to Shaw Cablesystems Ltd and going public in 1983 on the TSX.

Shaw spun off Corus Entertainment in 1999, which owns Global TV, 39 radio stations, YTV, Teletoon and many more. Corus has over 5,000 employees and revenue of over $1.6 billion.
